Project
Laser source development for space applications — LIBS-LaSSer
Project description
Optogama is leading LIBS-LaSSer — Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy Laser Source for Space — an activity funded by the European Space Agency (ESA).
The project aims to develop and evaluate a compact, robust laser source for future space-based laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) instruments used for elemental analysis.
Optogama’s work focuses on the laser source and optical subsystem architecture, with attention to reliability and size, weight, and power requirements. Planned activities include prototype development and performance verification to assess the technology’s suitability for space applications.
Project start: October 2026
Funding organization: European Space Agency (ESA)
Optogama’s role: Project lead
